2. I can't believe I'm going to make something from a cookbook
III. I can't believe how much I love this particular cookbook
All Cakes Considered
Normally I look at cookbooks and recipes as suggestions for serving various ingredients I happen to have on hand. I own exactly two cookbooks, and I cook out of exactly one. Both are Fannie Farmer's Boston Cooking School, the one I don't use is my grandmother's (she bought it when she had to start cooking when she let the cook and gardener go as part of the war effort) and the one I do use is the one Al got to learn to cook from, circa 1982. It opens automatically to biscuits, muffins, pancakes and Lazy Daisy Cake. The kids are trying to train it to find fudge also.
