Mar. 19th, 2012 09:07 pmNicest day!!
Rose, unseen but not out of mind for far too long, reappeared in the stop&shop yesterday and invited herself along to the barn this morning. She documented the getting ready business, and some of the working business (including this incredibly cheering canter - we really are improving) and then I had a hot horse and a need to walk. So I asked if she'd like to sit on the mare while I cooled her out. I had a lead shank and a firm grip on the horse, because I cannot break this person. Rose looked like a joyful kid - you could almost see the the thought balloon over her head that said "PONY!!! PONY!! PONY!!!!!!!" We just walked up and down the driveway. We talked some about the physical aspects of it; keeping your seatbones on the horse and your upper body quiet. It was so gratifying to see someone that happy.

Sadly lunch together didn't work out after all. Rose's sister needed home from work, she was sick with something, but still. A fabulous morning. I am feeling happy and lucky.
In between barn and truncated lunch we stopped to visit the Sycamore tree in the center of Sunderland. It is the biggest one in Massachusetts, so large the first branching looks more like landscape than tree. I'd love to be able to explore it, instead of standing on the ground staring up in a yearning kind of way.
The circle is close, but it needs more branches, and the bark isn't quite right.
