(no subject)

I'm home. I was gone for the weekend, to visit my mother. I think I've found the perfect way to cope with her. drugged. I was on Immitrex, which makes me faintly loopy and unworried. Also headache free. So anything she suggested, I said yes. We spent a lot of the time driving around so she could show me things (Aerin asked "did she take you cupola hunting??" well, nearly) many of which weren't there (the friend with the boat and the dog was behind locked gates not answering her cell phone, one store was closed, another closing... you know the drill) and talking. The good part was the talking. I managed to save her pictures to the web,so if her hard drive goes again, or her insane curiosity propels her to click one-more-thing and the computer gets infected again, she's got copies of the four thousand pictures of her view of the marsh and the dog and the funny cats. (really I haven't a leg to stand on - I have four thousand pictures of trees, flowers I've grown [because I'm astonished that they arise at all] and the kids)

Sunday I went to Wellesley College to see El Anatsui, and he was FABULOUS. ZOMGWTFBBQ level fabulous. The little things were riveting, and the big wall things I couldn't rip myself away from. I have six differentcool ideas jostling for attention, and I have scribbles in the sketchbook that I can pursue, and while I wasn't allowed to take pictures, I have assembled some further reading for you:

A picture here shows the fabric made from long thin parts wired together, and here that shows the different textures he gets from using different parts of the bottle closure. This is one of my favorites here; I like the way the silver goes across, and the lines that look like rivers go down, and the bulge of the red on the left interrupts the lines of silver.
