Questions from Flexagon,
part of a meme I think, but really good questions

1) What is the draw of equestrianism for you? (Please to use small words, suitable for those who've never really known or ridden a horse.)
The horses. I always loved horses; contrary to most people's expectations (my dad, particularly) it never faded. I like the strength of them, and smell of them, the look of their eyes, and way I can do things with them, and teach them things, and in return learn useful lessons about myself. There are emotional, physical and intellectual components to riding and riding better. Harnessing those is exhilarating.

2) What are a couple of "typical" things you can totally do without?
TV, movies, popular music
clothes for anything other than warmth and durability
shoes that aren't for walking, mud or riding horses
advice
news

3) You list YA books as an interest. What are some favorites?
I have a mad affection for anything from Diana Wynne Jones, particularly Dark Lord of Derkholm, mostly because it takes all the fantasy world quest tropes and stands them on their heads. Plus it is funny. I've been reading what my daughters do, and was very fond of Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life. I still love E.E Nesbitt, and her fantasies of magic in Edwardian England.

4) When you want to do something but you are not able to because of logistics, is it time or money that stops you?
wow - the daily stuff I run out of time, big adventures tend to be shorted on account of money

5) What's your favorite sock pattern / pair of socks you've knitted?
almost always the ones on the needles at the moment, right now Harika in a homedyed bluey/greeny and Bright! Yellow!
