dancing_crowI managed to get up to the barn both Wednesday and Friday with Rachel in tow. It was absurdly cold Wed, but we managed to convince Bob to come out and we bashed about bareback in the relatively fresh snow until we were all freezing and before the ponies broke a sweat. That was good, and we left chilled but happy.
I am less comfortable about bringing friends of Rachel's to the barn which was what happened friday. She is fond of animals, but wants friendship over dominance, leading to a long discussion about whether riding a horse counts as dominance or as a weirdly balanced partnership. We sat her on Kaboose for a while, first with a saddle, then bareback, and then Kaboose spooked, and the girl tumbled off into the snow and I realized I really really really never wanted to do that again. So. Eventually she sat for a minute on Ruby (closer to the ground) and was led in a small circle and dismounted of her own volition. She insisted she really enjoyed it, and loved the horses and was fine really.
I got a completely justified irate email from Leonor about putting strangers on their horses. In my defense, Bob was there. In truth, she was completely correct. So I think I'll request not to bring friends along for a while, at least not until I've been riding more and the weather is not conducive to goofiness on the part of the ponies.
In fabric news, I've been doing a great deal offuck all nothing at all. It is kind of peaceful to think about stage stuff and horse stuff and not be fretting a daily thing. BUT - I stand in the doorway to my workroom and want to set it on fire. There is such a lot of mess and organizing I should do and sorting and deciding about increasingly small bits of fabric, to say nothing of the tiny bits of treasures online friends have sent that I ought to do something with.So I am sitting with the mess for a while, and pushing stuff around, and thinking about what to do next.
