Aug. 1st, 2010 05:56 pmRed Kate talked Al and me into climbing at the gym again this afternoon. Alice had pressed me into it on Tuesday, and again on Friday when I belayed her and a friend and she belayed me. (she's tiny and 12, but capable and firmly attached to the ground anchor, otherwise if I fell off, she'd fly up as I plummetted)
Tuesday I made it partway up three different walls, maxing out well below the top of anything.
Friday I made it up the baby wall twice and flailed on one of the easy grownup walls, and then bouldered twice (the easiest possible)
Today I made it to the top of the tall 5.4 I've been flailing on for weeks (it feels like) and it felt like I was actually climbing, rather than an ugly, undignified, adrenaline fueled scramble.
I can see the attraction, although I am not really smitten the way some people I know are. It could be comfort with climbing. It could be strength and balance issues that I need to be better at.
Interesting but not urgent.
Riding on the other hand - urgent. I rode every day last week, and it felt Awesome.
