So when you've practiced something until you are good at it, how do you convince someone at the beginning that you were once there too? I just had this odd conversation with a woman about knitting in the round, and knitting socks. I only started doing this a couple years ago. I taught myself. I'm brave and not worried about making mistakes, and I think I'm clever. She kept insisting what I had was talent, and she'd never get there.

I don't know how to talk to that. I can be reassuring, and encouraging, but really? Just start at the beginning and go forward. Learn from your mistakes. Keep going. Rest assured you will make mistakes. I learn more from my mistakes than from my successes. You probably do too.

I think it is important to remember that you learn from making mistakes. Perfection is not only not possible, it is counterproductive. You can't get there from here.
