Manged to make it to the barn and ride Image, in layers and looking like the Michelin Man ("I can't put my arms down"). I didn't even bother with britches and boots, just kept jeans and long underwear and my tall muck boots which generally keep my feet warm and were at the limits of their use today. It was actually nearly up to 20F by noon time. (why yes, I was dragging my feet waiting for the day to warm up a little)
We walked sedately around the trackless field, which was fun, but he was stiff and grumpy and needed a lot of forward motion at the trot which Janice requested we do in decent footing because he'd strained something being goofy in the snow last year. So we were indoors and working on forward motion until my toes gave out.
Any recommendations on winter boots cheerfully accepted - I can't zip my tall ones over the extra layers of long underwear, and my toes are getting cold in ways they didn't used to. Mountain Horse gets rave reviews, but is said to be very stiff, Tuff Rider has a nice insert so you can drop your heels, and really I just have to go try things on.
