Sep. 13th, 2010 01:36 pmBoth girls caught the bus, for the first time since school started.
Yesterday I rode the red mare who was in a horrible space so I lunged her until she could walk (rather than, say, trot, canter, buck, fart, back up or piaffe) and then we did pretty well. It was another of those times when I could with all honor have just Not Ridden, but I figured out what she needed, and what I needed her to be able to do before I felt comfortable sitting on her, and then we did those things, and then I had a really nice ride. I am thinking she is an eternal vigilance kind of horse, which is what one should theoretically pay to all horses, but with some you can relax a little, and some will actually take care of you.
Today I rode J's old man (she says I keep calling him old, and she doesn't think of him as old, so I've been experimenting with calling him Dude or Son instead of Old Man with a German accent [ve haf vays, old man]) without side reins to see if I could get some of the same feel without the additional hardware. We did OK after some effort. I was actually working in the outdoor ring, trying it on for size, instead of the field. We got nice enough transitions, my sitting trot still needs a ton of work, and OMG the lengthenings of the trot made me grin like an idiot. J asked if I was interested in riding in a test in the last show this fall. Um, yes, please, thankyouverrymuch.
I am again the secretary for the show because poor E's hip dislocated and couldn't be put right, so they shipped her back to Mass General and replaced the whole ball and socket set AGAIN. She is in less pain now, but depressed about being back at the beginning all over again.
And then, J's little dog got chomped by something in the back woods and has random punctures on his neck and flank. So I patted him and warmed him up and put compresses on the wounds for a while after I got off Image. He was friendlier to me than M because I was not the one who'd shoved his meds down his throat earlier this morning. He growled at her!
