dancing_crowIn the serendipitous but utterly unexpected department;
I asked Al if he wanted to come riding with me this morning, more or less in jest but partly because I do tend to invite him along to random things routinely, and he said yes. I was astonished. Pleased, and astonished.
So we went up to see the Canadian mares, and got Penny saddled for him, and I got Kaboose ready, and we went and walked around the ring. He had taken lessons at UMass as a grad student in mumble1984??mumble and gotten past abject beginnerdom. He noted that although he was heavier, he was also stronger, more flexible in the back and hips, and had better balance. All of which turned out to be true.
He looked really, really good at the walk, and tried trotting just enough that he could slow down back to a walk, and then we went out on a very decorous amble up the dirt road. He did great. Penny did great.
We stopped while it was still fun, and went and had a lovely late lunch.
My life is very very nice.
As a side note, boyfriends who take on trying to ride are wonderful, and to be congratulated on their courage and lack of dignity.
