I don't know why these thin grass stems and tiny seed heads catch my attention so firmly. I love the way they are doubled by their shadows, and stick up above the snow.

There were small animal footprints all over the back field when I was walking out after today's ride on Image. We'd started in the front field with plenty of go, and I thought I'd see if we could take that inside and do some canter work, but it got stickier. We worked through it eventually, and walked past these later. The camera noise the phone makes made he start and shy the first couple times, but he got used to it.
