Bob's birthday viking horse

Bob's birthday was the day I fell off, and needed another spool of thread and some mobility in my left arm before I could finish it. Since both of those things happened, it is done. This one is much smaller - 5x7" is a good size for a birthday card, right? And Alice was completely correct that working smaller gave me more freedoms to experiment with colors. I can see another couple coming along, one with the horse GOLD(!).

I continue work on the other, larger, horse pieces, and I have started mapping out a couple more tree pieces.

Only part of the proliferation of trees is the cynical response to the adulation of the Elm tree I gave Abby for her birthday (or graduation, or whatever...) I have been looking at them hard all March. I tried to draw a tree a day during March, but failed gloriously, so I still have about half my tree sketchbook empty (which is Frickin HUGE at 18x25" and exceedingly unwieldy even withOUT a pained arm). Now that the leaves are coming in I am entranced all over again with the shapes of trees, and working on seeing the new leaves and blossoms as a haze of green on the branches.

I am surprised to see that everything so far this year has been much much bigger than previous years. It was kind of comforting to return to this little size for a gift. But I like having the room on the larger pieces, and I really like the impact they have across a room.

I have been copying the stuff from the fiber blog more or less verbatim, and adding irreverence over here. If you have strong feelings about content duplication, drop me a line and I'll scale back. I have no idea how many people read the lj, and the other blog seems stable at 30/day, give or take.
