house cleaning
Today we moved Red Kate into the Mouse Palace - a rental truck, three Comp Sci PhDs and me, plus each of them driving their own car (or in Bill's case, his truck) and Kate driving her enormous van and her dad showed up to take away all the books in his enormous van.
WB purchased us lunch from the burrito place, as well as beeeer (good idea but too early in the day for me) and fancy Mexico Cola which was nice. My knees are sore. We got her big things over, and the bed installed and made, so she can just fall into it tonight, and her clock and beside table are where she can see them, and there is a Borg cube of boxes in the living room (isn't that just always the way??)
Kate fed us supper at the sushi place. I had a Blue Hawaiian (which was persistently misspelled at the previous default Chinese place as Bule Hawaiian) which was perfect, and a lot of fish, Al expounded on quantum everything, and I am so done with today.
Tomorrow we celebrate what we think is (counting on our fingers) the 35th annual Pre-Thanksgiving, the collection of chosen family we cobbled together in grad school, and have been re-convening ever since. It used to be in defiance of our combined families, who so jealously wanted us home when we preferred to stay where we were. Now it has been going long enough, it is, as Al points out, the closest thing to a longitutidinal survey we will every take part in. Oold friends combine with our house mates from that time, office mates, plus and also people we have collected since. It is always a nice time, and I always dread it. I am also always glad i go, so.
