hah. also a very good life
I am home from my funnest weekend in a long time.
On Friday I ran away from home and went to Portland ME, and slept in some stranger's attic, courtesy of air bnb. I had a nap on arrival, a brief walk with supper, and more sleep. I slept in the middle of the bed. I slept longer than I meant to. It was wonderful.
Saturday I found the room in question at SMU and saw in person a woman I've been internetting with for more than 6 years, and she taught a room of enthusiastic people how to do contact printing: place the foraged material on sturdy paper, fold, add material, bundle as neatly as possible, and drop in boiling water with additional iron or copper, and cook it for a while. After an hour or so, fish it out, unroll and unwrap it, remove the hot wet foliage and see what happened. This is my favorite corner of the pieces I made (that's onion, fern, sumac berries and possibly a can lid making something so beautiful it made my eyes water)
.
I left after class and headed to Lowell, where it was demonstrated that old mill buildings can be used for things besides circus studios and artist studios. And then we had a frabjous dinner and i went to Great Kate's hosue and slept and talked about all the important things, and THEN -
then i went back to Amherst and found four friends from various corners and we had lunch and then went to admire the quilts at the quilt show that only happens every other year. There were amazing things. It was wonderful.
And finally I went home. I am glad to be home. It was a good weekend. I got to see many of my favorite people.
