I am unstuck in time!

Wednesday I traveled to Derry NH to help empty out a (deceased) parent's house. It wasn't anywhere near as distressing as my mother-in-law's - there was no patholigy evident, just slowing down and not getting around to things like recycling. We took two full pick-up truck loads of paper to recycle at the dump, and that was just the stuff he'd piled up and not finished and one room downstairs. I got motion sick on the way home, which was unpleasant for everyone. Janice let me drive after that, which distracted me sufficiently that I made it with out recurrence.

Made it home in time to go to the middle school open house and meet Alice's teachers. Our observations line up with Alice's, which is nice: nice English, awesome if strict Latin, terrific and funny math (which is good because she has two periods a day, all year), workmanlike if slightly distracted history, and mediocre science, possibly easier to take if one is a) plugged into American pop culture or b) following any sports team.

Yesterday the electric was out when I got home from the morning school delivery, so I thought I'd have a short nap. I woke up 2 and a half hours later, ready to have a little lunch and do it again.

Made it to the high school open house and led Al confidently in the wrong direction, winding up in history instead of chem. After getting that straightened out, he didn't believe me the rest of the evening. I was weirdly grumpy, he was weirdly happy, and all the teachers eemed to be going out of their way to make the parents laugh. The chem teacher lifted a ceiling tile with a whoomph of ignited alcohol vapor. the band director talked aobut how much practicing it took to get anywhere. the choral director made us sing the first verse of Blue Moon, almost everyone in the background doo-wopping and one person on a mic. The Physics teacher just told funny stories, and said (over and over and over again) "It'll be fine. Really. FINE."

Aerin has AP Chem, band, Discrete Math at Smith, and AP Physics. She is so happy.
