So, universe, if it is a widely acknowledged fact that middle school sucks, WHY do we continue to organize our school systems such that we sequester middle school students and propagate this suckitude across the generations?
Honestly - it is a given. Every book, every article, every piece of fiction set in middle school starts with the suckitude, and branches from there, but no one, NO ONE is thinking welll, what if we stake middle school and try something DIFFERENT?? There are models for how to do it different. There are places where kids go from elementary school, with the protections and comforts and recess into the excitement of something bigger and they are prepared for it without the long dark teatime of the soul that is 7th and 8th grade where the life and love and capabilities get sucked right out of them.
I'm sure this is a USian problem, but here I am watching my brilliant 7th grader get slowly abraded by the tedium and appalling behaviour that is her current milieu, and I want something different for her, and for her classmates SO BADLY
