Rachel and I went out for a trail ride this afternoon, both headachey, both tired, the weather weird and blowy and the horses ready to be excited about.... something. After a long pull up a steep hill they both settled into the rhythm of the ride, some trotting, some bushwhacking (still looking for some connecting route between two well known trails) until the turkeys. Ruby thought they might eat ponies, and she and Rachel got into a bad feedback loop of escalating tension. I was telling Rachel to breathe in and breathe out, and then I realized if she dropped her hands down to her knees, and widened them, she could change her contact with Ruby and ask her to bring her head down and breathe and be calmer. Which worked. Rachel was amazed, and I felt like a hero.
And then we went home.
More weird weather tonight, and then winter comes back with a vengeance.
Please, ponies, no colicking?
